a conversation

Kate had just finished a popsicle, not a cucumber, when this picture was taken.

We have been harvesting cucumbers from our garden. The other day I attempted to get Kate to enjoy one with me. Here is a bit of our conversation:
Me: Take a bite
Kate: I don't like it.
Me: Try it. You've never tried it before. Just take one bite.
Kate: Okay.
She takes a bite
Kate: I don't like it.
Me: Well, take another bite.
She takes one more bite
Kate: Mom, I really don't like it.

she let me fix her hair

Kate usually prefers the frazzled, bed head look, when it comes to her hair. But yesterday morning she agreed to let me fix her hair! The one condition was that I had to use all of the purple hair ties. I agreed and managed to find a way to put all 8 purple rubber bands in her hair. We were both happy with the finished product.

the list

Have you heard about "the list"?

As you may or may not know, Kate frequently asks for new toys, puzzles, games, etc. I feel like she is constantly asking me, "Mommy, can I have this Disney Princess puzzle for my next birthday?" Or, "Mommy, can I have this computer for Christmas?" My typical response was "maybe" or "I'll think about it". Then, one day I thought I had a brilliant idea, I would start responding that we could add things to her list. How clever of mommy! I would no longer have to tell her "no". I could just say, I would add it to the list. I naively thought Kate would tire of me saying I would add it to the list. Silly mommy! Now instead of being asked if she can have the toy for her birthday or Christmas, she instead says/demands, no less than 57 times a day, "Mommy, add {insert desired toy of the moment here} to my list." And, she also now checks on "the list". For example, she saw a puzzle in a catalog and asked me to add it to the list. Then, not an hour later, she asked "mommy, did you add the puzzle to my list?" I think it is safe to say that mommy's list idea is working too well! And, for those of you who are curious, no, I am not really keeping a list! That would push me over the edge I am teetering on most days...

almost

I finally got a picture of Liz standing. Just this weekend, she started standing on her own!! She is very wobbly and has not attempted to take any steps yet, though.

swimming

Photobucket

We took Kate to the "big swimming pool" on Friday. This was Kate's first time at a public pool.

It took her a while to feel comfortable. But eventually she really started enjoying herself. Now all she can talk about is the next time we go to the "big pool".

It was a very special afternoon for Kate, mommy, and daddy.

a conversation

I am trying to do better about writing down things Kate says and conversations we have. Here is an exchange we had the other day:
Kate: Mommy, we should buy lemonade toothpaste because I like that kind.
Me: They don't make that kind.
Kate: Oh.

weekly photo

week 44

This is not the best picture. My camera's settings were a bit kooky when we started our Wednesday photo shoot. The original photo was very dark. I did some editing in an attempt to make this picture better because I love the expressions on their faces. It might not be the best photo technically, but their expressions make it a winner in my book.

10 months

Photobucket

Photobucket
Liz was 10 months of Friday. I have been having the hardest time getting pictures of her lately. Now that she is mobile she crawls towards me and grabs for the camera whenever I try to photograph her. Or, she is just moving too quickly, so it is never a good shot. I really wanted to get a picture of her standing up. But, again, she is too fast. She also started cruising around furniture the last few days. Soon she will be walking. I am not sure we are ready. But, ready or not, here she comes!
